Thrive in 2025
Most leaders I speak with are concerned with the state of their business. They feel that no matter the state of the business now it could always be better. For some, it’s imperative that the business become better than it is now.
In a global poll of leaders, 45% believe their company will not be viable in 10 years if they stay on their current course. That number is up from 40% just a year ago. Where do you think your company is right now? Part of the 45%?
In 30 years of guiding leaders and their teams through some of the most difficult disruptions and changes like deep recessions, transformative business ages and the pandemic we have found that companies generally fall into one of three states on the change leadership continuum during disruptive periods;
Survivor:
No matter what these companies do they fall further behind the change occurring in their markets and categories.
Struggler:
These companies do everything they can but they only manage to tread change and stay afloat.
Competitor:
They are right on top of change, they stick with it and manage it well. But they never get ahead of it and never get the better of it.
There is a fourth state, one our clients strive for;
Incomparable:
These companies are in front of the change and disruption in their markets and ahead of their competitors because they see growth and performance opportunities within it.
Getting to the fourth state is the new strategic imperative for leaders seeking success in the new world of business.
Moving out of your company’s current state, no matter where you are on the change leadership continuum happens with focus on the 3 R’s
Resilience:
A renewed focus on the top priority challenges facing your employees and customers, the catalysts of the company’s success. And on the killers of productivity, growth and innovation.
To strengthen resilience, stabilize your organization. First dance with the one ya brung. Focus on current employee and customer challenges and build your retention and engagement. Then reset systems and processes to meet the challenges and opportunities of the new business environment.
Relevance:
The key here is to become the essential organization to your employees and customers by engaging them in their future. It requires a shift in how you think about them and their needs. It is a shift in how you respond to them versus reacting to the market dynamics. Understanding and anticipating their future doesn’t require massive research. But it does take better, more empathetic questions and discussion to be truly relevant and timely.
Revenue:
The outcome of resilience and relevance is more revenue and the capacity for growth and investment in people, innovation and systems. More capacity fuels more resilience, more relevance and more revenue.
The 3 R’s, when managed in order, creates an interdependent system that turns the flywheel of growth and performance for the business. We call it the Performance Ecosystem and our clients have found that it very quickly moves their organization from their current to their desired state.
